Rights of Children According to the Holy Quran
However, through Quran, Hadees, and Sunnah, one can easily know the rights of the children.
Rights of the children before they are being born
A Muslim man is advised to marry a religious, virtuous and pious woman. The prophet (S.a.w) said,
“A woman may be married for four reasons: her wealth, her lineage, her beauty and her religious commitment. Marry the one who is religiously committed, may your hands be rubbed with dust (i.e., may you prosper).” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 4802; Muslim, 1466).
Other than choosing a good wife to be a good mother, the perspective of Islam on abortion is also very clear in Quran. A married couple should never opt for abortion unless it is medically required for the health of the mother feuilles coranisées and roqya.
Rights of the children after they are born
Naming a child appropriately
It is advised by the prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) to all the Muslims to name their child beautifully. The meanings of the name must carry beautiful meanings. In the ancient times, the Arabs did not take much care regarding the names of their children. The names of the children were as bizarre as words meaning “fire”, “beetle” etc. the prophet Muhammad (s.aw.) used to change such names.
Understanding the status of each child
It has been a very wrong perception among some Muslim parents that each child is their property. The parents must try to understand the Quran for guidance. Each wedded Muslim couple must realize that child bearing is a religious responsibility to bring ethically strong, productive individuals to the world. According to the Islamic teachings, each child is the ‘amanat’ of the Almighty.
Proper feeding and grooming of the child
The parents must strive to feed and groom their child properly. The Quran says,
“And do not kill your children out of fear of poverty; we shall provide for them and for you. Truly, the killing of them is a great sin”. (17:31)
Allah Almighty has promised to feed everyone. So the couple must realize their responsibility and trust Allah for help.
Religious and worldly education of the child
The Quran has put strong emphasis on the education. Of course, a healthy society is formed by the enlightened minds.
The Quran says,
“O ye who believe! Save yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is Men and Stones.” (66:6)
This verse clearly indicates that educating the children is the responsibility of the parents.
Right of inheritance
Allah Almighty has told us the importance of justice at several places in the holy Quran. Deviating from the rules of Islamic inheritance is a clear injustice, which is a big sin. The parents must also realize that the disobedience of a child does not give them the license to cancel his or her right on the Islamic inheritance. The laws of Islamic inheritance do not hold any ambiguity and the parents must adhere to them.
